A Comprehensive Guide to the Media Explorer

Media Library Recovery Intermediate Last updated: September 14, 2026

The Media Explorer is Media Library Recovery Pro’s tool for recovering, restoring, and backing up media files. Its Info Bar and Custom Icons make it easier to see what’s going on in your library and act on it.

Info Bar: Instant Insights at Your Fingertips

The Info Bar shows key metrics about your media library at a glance:

  • Total files found in the library
  • Oversized files flagged for review
  • Hidden files excluded from regular views
  • Selected files queued for recovery
  • Remaining files available for recovery

It also shows pagination details – your current page and the total file count across all pages – so you always know where you stand. For more on managing large media libraries, see the WordPress Media Library documentation.

Custom Icons: Visual Cues for Clarity

Each file in the Media Explorer shows an icon indicating its status:

  • Already recovered or found in both the server and database
  • Not found in the database but available for recovery
  • Selected for recovery and missing from the database
  • Exceeding the size or type limits set in Options, and ineligible for recovery

These icons let you recognize a file’s status at a glance, without opening it.

Streamlined Recovery Process

Recovery is non-intrusive – nothing is uploaded or overwritten on the server. It’s based entirely on the settings you’ve defined in Options, letting you:

  1. Filter and display files based on specific criteria.
  2. Select files for recovery with a single click, directly from the Media Explorer.

A Complete Media Management Tool

Beyond recovery, the Media Explorer is useful during database failures, resets, or migrations – helping you:

  • Recover lost media assets from the /uploads folder.
  • Maintain site continuity and data integrity.
  • Guard against unexpected data loss.

Between its status metrics, visual icons, and non-intrusive recovery workflow, the Media Explorer is built to make managing a WordPress media library – especially after a database reset or migration – straightforward. For more tips, see WordPress.org Support.
